The IHRA Triple Crown Delivered A Drag Racing Festival Experience

The format and execution of national event-level drag races have been perfected over decades. A great event feels like a well-choreographed dance where every performer hits their mark. The first IHRA Triple Crown event at Darana Raceway-Hebron felt more like an organic festival, and that’s exactly what made it so cool.

I get to attend a lot of different types of drag racing events, but this IHRA Triple Crown event had a different vibe. As I walked around the pits, you could feel the buzz of energy because there was so much on the line for these teams. It was unique. Everyone was excited to be there and take a swing at the huge payout.

Another thing that stood out was the diversity of the crowd. There were longtime fans, young fans, first-time attendees, and plenty of families. You could tell they were having a good time, and the racers seemed to enjoy the interaction just as much.

There was always something happening. A live band played trackside, a Ferris wheel that spun at a surprisingly high rate of speed, and there was even bull riding in the pits on Friday night.

When all of that came together, the event really felt like a 1990s music festival mixed with big-money drag racing.

When the track was hot, the racing delivered. Watching teams pull out all the stops to make the field in Mountain Motor Pro Stock, Funny Car, Top Fuel, and Fuel Altered was intense. The Pro Mod eliminations were especially impressive. Every round felt like a final, with so many elite teams on the property throwing haymakers at each other just to advance.

Now, five racers still have a chance to win life-changing money at the IHRA Triple Crown double event in September at Maple Grove Raceway. If the first Triple Crown event felt this special, Maple Grove has the potential to be something truly incredible.
