Mean Six Pack: Glen Treadwell’s 7-Second Comp Eliminator Altered

NHRA’s Competition Eliminator, or Comp Eliminator as it’s known by is an interesting class of racing. Competitors come up with some wild engine combinations to be competitive and then stuff those engines into whatever chassis will provide the best advantage. Glenn Treadwell’s 1923 Ford Model T Altered is powered by a 300 cubic-inch Ford straight-six and runs deep into the 7.70s without a power-adder.

Drag racing attracts all kinds of different people for a multitude of reasons. For Glenn, he’s always been interested in tinkering with things and drag racing really scratches that ich for him.

“I’ve always been obsessed with trying to fix things and seeing how they work. When I was a kid I would take watches and clocks apart to see what made them tick. Eventually, that carried me towards cars when I got older since they were complex machines. Drag Racing hits on that need to work on and improve things, plus it gives me an outlet for my competitive spirit,” Glenn explains.

The Kenny Byers-built chassis is home to the Mark Kirkman composite body. Now, the 300 cubic-inch straight-six engine that powers Glen’s altered is based on an OEM block out of a 1987 Ford truck. A custom cylinder head from Alan Johnson Performance Engineering rests on top of the engine and has been matched to a custom intake manifold with three split Holley Dominator carburetors. Inside the engine you’ll find a Crower crankshaft, GRP connecting rods, and Wiseco pistons.

This isn’t the only six-cylinder Comp Eliminator car in Glenn’s camp. The team also campaigns another car that’s powered by the six-banger out of a Chevrolet Trailblazer. Of all the classes, why did Glenn decide to run Comp Eliminator? For him, it comes down to the challenge of building a combination and perfecting it to be competitive. He also enjoys being able to run his car as hard as he wants without worrying about breaking out on a pass.
