FuelTech is expanding its VisionFT line of ECUs with the new FT470. The FT470 is FuelTech’s first ECU that doesn’t feature a built-in screen, brings new capabilities to the table, and is priced under $1,000.

The first thing people will notice about the FT470 is just how different it looks from any other FuelTech ECU. This unit was designed from the start to provide users with the ability to use their own device as a dash. The FuelTech Vision software can connect via iOS, Android, macOS, or Windows to allow a phone, computer, or Android dash to be used as the FT470’s display.

Just because the FT470 is brand new doesn’t mean it’s running on an unproven platform. FuelTech built the FT470 to run on its Vision software, a reliable system that has been used in many vehicles. Feedback from tuners and customers has been incorporated into the Vision software inside the FT470 to make it even more robust.

FuelTech went without a display on the FT470 for one big reason: to give users the freedom to install the ECU anywhere they want.

If you’re looking for more control options, the FT470 has plenty to offer:

  • Port injection and now direct injection with GDI pump control
  • VE fuel injection or injection-time mode
  • A customizable CAN FD bus
  • Block-based Custom Functions
  • Wireless communication
  • Knock monitoring
  • Drive-by-wire throttle control

“The FT470 is built on the same VisionFT platform as the FT700, in a package that installs where the factory ECU was and turns the phone or tablet you already carry into your dash,” said Anderson Dick, Founder and CEO of FuelTech. “Flex IO means it keeps up as the project grows. From the street to the drag strip, it goes where you go.”

The Flex IO system has a total of seven dedicated universal inputs paired with 20 outputs that convert into additional inputs when they aren’t needed as outputs. This gives users up to 27 inputs for sensor-heavy setups.

Here are the key features of the Flex IO system:

  • Your dash, any device: Up to four fully customizable dashboards in the FuelTech Vision app on a phone, tablet, or Android head unit, with the software available on Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android.
  • Built-in connectivity: Wi-Fi, with the ability to join an existing network or let the FT470 create its own, plus USB-C.
  • Integrated wideband O2: Closed-loop fuel control out of the box, compatible with Bosch LSU 4.2, 4.9, 5.2, and NTK sensors, no external controller needed.
  • Flex IO: Seven dedicated universal inputs plus 20 outputs that convert into additional inputs if not required.
  • Two CAN FD networks: Fully customizable, with custom frames and DBC import/export, and compatible with modern CAN FD vehicles.
  • Custom Functions: Visual block logic to program the ECU to do exactly what the project needs.
  • Built for drag racing: Automatic transmission control at the solenoid level for up to 10 gears, an integrated gear controller with strain-gauge shifter input, and up to 12 progressive ProNitro stages.
  • VVT control: Up to four camshafts.
  • Advanced datalogger: 16 times the datalog memory of an FT550 or FT600, with 1,000-plus channels, math channels, video sync with dashboard overlay, and side-by-side map comparison.
  • Built-in sensors: Internal 7-bar absolute MAP sensor, accelerometer, and live knock monitoring.
  • Everything unlocked: Every ECU feature is included, with no paid feature licenses.
  • Compact and compatible: Uses the same connector family as the PowerFT line, which simplifies the wiring when upgrading, in a 5.87 x 5.67 x 1.78-inch package weighing 0.66 pounds.

The FT470 is available right now on FuelTech’s website and through its authorized dealer network. You’ll be able to find all of the FT470’s harness options on the product page.
