If you have been around the Ford scene for a while, you remember the days when the Lysholm name was the gold standard for twin-screw blowers. They were efficient, they sounded incredible, and they made torque instantly. Well, after a long hiatus, Vortech is officially bringing that tech back. At PRI 2025, they showed off a brand new 3.0-liter supercharger that marks their return to positive displacement, and for anyone tired of the usual options, this is a big deal.

It is worth a quick history lesson to understand why this matters. Vortech actually bought Lysholm way back in 2009. Lysholm was the company that practically invented the screw compressor in the 1930s and was the brainpower behind the factory blower on the 2005 Ford GT. After the buyout, things went quiet on the twin-screw front as Vortech focused on their centrifugal units. But they didn’t forget about the tech. They spent that time re-engineering the housing and flow path. The new 3.0-liter unit features a massive discharge port, much larger than the old “L-land” designs. That means it moves air more efficiently, keeping heat down and power up.

Now, here is the part that might sting a little for the Blue Oval crowd: the first kits hitting the shelves are for the LS platform. I know, I know—the LS gets everything first. But Vortech was very clear that Ford applications are second in line, followed by the small-block Chevy. They are just following the sales volume to get the production lines moving. The good news is that the head unit itself is universal.

What really sells this for me isn’t just the rotor pack—honestly, most rotors are pretty similar these days. It’s the packaging. Vortech is applying their “OEM-level” fitment philosophy here. That means no weird brackets that flex, no belt alignment issues, and an install that looks like it came from the factory. They are aiming for 800 to 1,000 horsepower support with reliable, daily-drivable manners. They are even looking into adapters for guys running old, discontinued kits who want to upgrade to the new head unit. It’s a solid return to form, and frankly, having another serious player in the twin-screw game is a win for all of us.
