The Mid-West Drag Racing Series rolled into Tulsa Raceway Park with a mission of running three full races in just three days. The Flying H Double Smackdown was slated to run last month at Flying H Drag Strip, but each day had periods of rain, which eventually caused the race to be postponed and moved to the next event on the schedule, the Throwdown in T-Town at Tulsa Raceway Park.

Runner-up: Kye Kelley
Hurricane Motorsports came into Tulsa Raceway Park on a mission. Team owner Peter Norton was the No. 1 qualifier for both make-up races and parked it in the winner’s circle for the first race of the weekend, and team driver Kye Kelley won the second race. Fresh off his win, Kelley also claimed the No. 1 qualifying spot for the Throwdown in T-Town race with a 3.548-second run at 209.68 mph.
The No. 2 qualifying spot was held by Stevie “Fast” Jackson, driving the KTR SF1-C-powered “Purple Heart” owned by Jeff and Dave Pierce, with Jeff Pierce behind the keyboard. Jackson met up with Kelley in the final round. As the cars left the line, Jackson caught Kelley sleeping, and that holeshot advantage earned Jackson the win — the combo’s first victory in just its second outing. Jackson ran 3.591 at 208.50 mph to Kelley’s quicker but losing 3.556 at 209.83 mph.

Quarter Max Pro Extreme

For the first time this season, the Mid West Drag Racing Series invited the Pro Extreme Pro Mods out to see who was the quickest and baddest out there. Bubba Stanton laid down a 3.483-second run at 218.55 mph for the No. 1 spot. Stanton lost to Tim Savell in the semifinals, setting up Savell for a final-round matchup against No. 2 qualifier David Brinkley. After running low 3.50s all weekend, Brinkley got the win light against Savell, running 3.523 at 217.79 mph to Savell’s 3.666 at 192.99 mph.

No. 2 qualifier Macy Higgins got the win light against Matthew Hill in the opening round, then was .008 on the tree and “dead-on” 4.200 in round three, putting him in a final-round matchup with No. 9 qualifier Brian Lewis. As the tree dropped, Lewis went red, automatically handing the win to Higgins.
