After the sudden closure of Auto Club Dragway in Fontana, California, due to the cited reasons of noise control, the officials with NHRA and JEGS quickly went to work looking for a suitable replacement track for the SPORTSnationals. After an extensive search, the NHRA has announced that the 2012 JEGS Pacific SPORTSnationals will be held at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway from October 12-14.
The SPORTSnationals is a three-race series sponsored by JEGS for sportsman racers across the country held with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. The first of these events was the JEGS Cajun Sports national that was held earlier this year at No Problem Raceway in Belle Rose, Louisiana. The second event is scheduled to run on September 21-23 at National Trail Raceway near Columbus, Ohio, home of event sponsor JEGS Performance Auto Parts and Mail Order. The third and final event will now at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. All three events showcase the most exciting competition among Sportsman racers including the competitive Top Dragster and Top Sportsman classes. JEGS Pacific SPORTSnationals kicks off Thursday, October 11 with a “Test and Tune Day” open to all participants.
Following will be a series of specialty races over the course of the weekend including Gambler races on Thursday and Friday, October 11-12. Many involved are excited that The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway has stepped in and stepped up to help out the Sportsman competitors.
