7 Second Camaro From “Down Under”

Over here in the states one of the more popular drag racing classes is the drag radial class and specifically the LSX drag radial class. This class consists of high horsepower LSX powered cars that usually run a power adder like a turbo or supercharger. The class is very aggressive and run in the upper to mid 7 sec in the quarter mile. They are a blast to drive, watch, work on… pretty much everything about them.

Vince Morabito and Michael Vee from Australia agree. They are known for producing some of the fastest drag cars out of Australia. They owned a 2001 Trans Am that ran a naturally aspirated motor that was 427ci. The car was very quick running 8.75 @ 155mph. While this is a huge accomplishment running all motor, they guys where just itching to run a car with a big turbo.

They searched above and beyond looking for a turbo car they could run in drag radial. They came across a 2000 Camaro over her in the U.S. that was equipped with everything they were looking for including a 106mm turbo – it even ran a best of 7.51@193mph here in the U.S. After the car was brought over to Australia they took it to the track for a couple test runs with a mild tune. With much surprise the car laid down a quick of 7.62@190mph with and incredible 1.33 60’. While most racers would choose to run a drag slick tire, this car come equipped with radial tire. Drag radial racing here in the state is pretty big and is starting to pick up “down under”.

The car is running around 1800hp on the dyno at only 3350lbs with the driver in it. With another 200hp on tap this car will sure be a big competitor in 2010. Some of the Spec’s include a Rossler powerglide transmission, 106mm turbocharger, and a wicked looking intake manifold. The car runs on C16 race fuel and uses 160 lbs fuel injectors.
