Last weekend at the Speedtech U.S. Drags IV at the Virginia Motorsports Park, the American Drag Racing League debuted Pro Modified as an exhibition class, and after a popular first outing, the series has announced that the category will return for the seasons’ final two events.
Fans can expect to see the Pro Modifieds in competition at the Summit Racing Equipment Ohio Drags V, which will take place Sept. 23-24 at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, and the LenMar Motorsports World Finals VII, Oct. 21-23 at Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas.
At these races, Pro Modified competitors will compete for a $5,000 winners purse, with additional awards for the runner-up, semi-finalists, and first round qualifiers. At each event there will be a $250 entry fee, with an eight-car qualified field contested for the 12 invited race teams.
The introduction of the class into the ADRL provides popular racers such as Leah Pruett-Leduc and Mike Janis even more opportunities to get their cars on the track in front of the fans, and thus far, it appears to be appreciated by fans and racers, alike.
“This has been a fantastic weekend,” said Janis after last weekend’s exhibition. “I think it’s going to be a great thing and there was a lot of great racing out there.”
With the great response from drivers and fans in mind, the ADRL stated in a release that the Pro Modified class being added to the schedule for the last two events of the season could very well mean the full-time addition of the category for the 2012 season.
ADRL Director of Competition Tom Grooms said, “The response we received from drivers, teams and fans was terrific and we’re thrilled to have these amazing Pro Modified cars as part of our final two races of the 2011 season. There’s a lot of these amazing cars out there and I really think you’re going to see some outstanding action in this class during these final two races.”
