Every time the GMPP LSX Shootout rolls around state-side it’s undeniably one of the best and biggest events of the year for LSX-powered cars and trucks alike – bringing all the GM power to one race puts on one helluva show. With that said, the LS engine platform isn’t only popular here, it’s extremely popular on the other side of the pond in Australia, where cars like the modern GTO, G8, and the soon to be state-side Caprice originated. Taking note of how well these type of events work here, the folks in Australia decided it was time to give it a whirl.
GM Motorsport (One of the event sponsors) put a post up on Modern Camaro with more info, but for full details visit their website at lsxshootout.com.au.
So maybe you’re in Australia and thinking about attending, either as a spectator or LSX racer, or just curious about the event details and have some questions. Here’s a basic rundown of what’s going on-
Where will it take place?
Heathcote Park Raceway, which is a full 1/4 mile facility.
What classes will there be racing?
LSXT – True Street, cars using strictly street tires.
LSXS – Super Street, which features LSX cars on drag radials.
LSXE – Extreme, where we expect some of the fastest cars to be, set up as a 9.99 or faster heads up class. All cars will run on slicks.
As well as LSXO- Which is the Outlaw class for cars that weren’t equipped with LS motors from the factory.
Entry fee is a mere $50 for Saturday’s racing activities, but a test n tune on Friday is also available for an additional $50. All classes will pay $500 to the winner, and the fastest E/T of the event will send you home with another $500 and the title of “Australia’s Fastest LSX.” Be sure to check back for updates on winners and unique car appearances when the event kicks off in April.
