In the early days of drag racing, well before amazing drag racing coliseums like Summit Motorsports Park and zMAX Dragway existed, racers chased speed and wins on airport runways. Traction was scarce, getting down the airstrip was rarely easy, and you had to be brave to chase victory.
The Rowdy Racing – Star Spangled Shootout 6.0 brought that era back to life at Ledgedale Airpark in Brockport, New York. Promoter Ty Ranger and his team combined that old-school feel of airport drag racing with the amazing modern machines that take to the track today. No frills, nothing fancy, just line up and race for money.
There were some tough customers among the 56 small-tire cars that showed up to the Star Spangled Shootout 6.0. The Ledgedale Airpark surface was unforgiving and showed no favoritism to anyone. That’s what makes events like this special. There are zero guarantees about who will make it all the way to the money round.
In the Small Tire final, Street Racing Channel star Billy Hoskinson lined up against Joe Smoe. Hoskinson, who was literally flying during the event, was able to bring home the win and secure a nice $28,000 payday, while Smoe was awarded $7,000 for his runner-up finish.
