Remember the 1,400-horsepower Chevrolet Caprice, Luke Cage, that beat a 9-second Hellcat? That machine was built by BoostDoctor. BoostDoctor, known for his big-rim racing, has since built Slingblade as his most recent and highly anticipated vehicle. Slingblade made its head-turning debut at Rockingham Dragway during Carolina vs The World, ready to shake up the Big Wheel scene. Carolina vs. The World is an event famous for creating serious bragging rights in the street-style drag racing community, making it the perfect stage to unveil a new build.
Based on a 2000 TransAm and riding on 24” Rucci wheels and slicks, Slingblade packs a powerhouse beneath a clean, deceiving exterior. It houses a 500 ci Chevrolet Big Block and twin turbos. Although builder Ira Self, aka BoostDoctor, has assembled several big block machines, this is the first one he’s built as the powerplant for his own car. Choosing a big block and pairing it with twin turbos was no small decision, it was made with power and precision in mind.
When speaking about his other build, Luke Cage, and why he chose to create another car, Ira stated, “I’d rather have something like they’ve got and then apply my knowledge to it, instead of starting behind the game in equipment.” He converted the roller he purchased back to a stock wheelbase, then built the rest of the beast by hand. When he rolled the machine out at the track, it turned every head. We are looking forward to seeing what he accomplishes in this new build.
