Less than two full months into the 2018 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series season, Riverton, Utah Top Sportsman racer Bryan Warr has already accomplished more than he could have hoped to in an entire year. Warr, the reigning Division 7 Top Sportsman champion, checked a major item off his bucket list by earning his first career NHRA national event crown at the Arizona Nationals in Phoenix in late February. Just one week later, at the same facility, he continued his torrid pace, driving his Corvette to another final round victory, capping off an 11-round streak at the Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park and placing himself in prime position to improve on his fifth-place finish nationally a year ago.
And Warr hasn’t woken from his dream season just yet.
This week, he took delivery of a state-of-the-art new 1969 Chevrolet Camaro from Rick Jones Race Cars in Galesburg, Illinois, with all the bells and whistles of a modern Pro Modified machine, to propel him toward his ultimate goal of a national title.
The Camaro features a full 4130 chrome-moly construction with an upgraded double framerail design to handle the horsepower from his nitrous oxide-assisted, Sunset Performance Engines-built, 674 cubic-inch mill. The car sports an all-carbon fiber body with gorgeous white pearl paint from SD Enterprises, and is optioned with high-quality components from Quarter-Max from nose to tail.
The rear suspension is comprised of a custom 9-inch floater rearend housing with Strange Engineering axle and brakes and Quarter-Max’s 4-link suspension system with Extreme Adjustable Billet 4-link brackets, an Extreme 2-inch anti-roll bar, Extreme Pro Series wishbone, and Penske 7500 double-adjustable shocks. Up front are threaded adjustable strut mounts for the Strange single-adjustable ultra struts, and Weld Racing Full Throttle 15 x 3.5-inch Anglia-Style front wheels.
Inside you’ll find carbon fiber in copious doses to keep the overall vehicle weight to a minimum, with 46-inch wheel tubs, tube protectors, a Quarter-Max lightweight steering wheel, and a carbon K&R delay box. RJ Race Cars has upgraded the safety features of the Camaro with a carbon wraparound seat with a custom-molded Butler seat insert and safety head pad system, along with a Simpson 7-point harness.
Warr will shake down the new Camaro in testing following the upcoming four-wide national event in Las Vegas and will then press the car into duty in his quest to repeat as Division 7 champion.
