Many have argued that Cecil County Dragway in Rising Sun, Md. has the best Outlaw street car program in the country. Their argument will be even stronger after the 2012 season, as Cecil has stepped up their program to another level. The biggest thing to hit outlaw street car racing has been the X275 class and it’s been a major hit at this track. X275 will be back and it’ll have big and a little brother classes alongside it. That’s right, there will be three radial tire classes this season with Ultra Street, X275, and Outlaw Drag Radial.
Ultra Street is a class developed as an alternative to the popular X275 category. The cars will carry more weight and have more restrictions on the engine and the power adders. Power adder entries will only be allowed to run on a Mickey Thompson 275/60R15 tire. Area racers are very excited about this class and many have stated that they will be racing in Ultra Street.
X275 should still have a strong following with more jaw dropping E.T’.’s popping up on the scoreboards. With all the chatter on the message boards, X275 should continue to have full fields and lots of action.
The wildest class at this event has to be Outlaw Drag Radial. The car counts have been weak in the last few years but they’ve gotten a lot stronger recently as many cars were being built and numerous projects have been completed. The track manager has been negotiating with sponsors to try to bump up the payout in this class.
Outlaw 10.5 is the king of this event and the Mid-Alantic area is a haven for these high-powered machines. Full fields are the norm for this class and that should continue this season with racers gunning for that $5,000 purse.
Outlaw Big Tire is back for 2012 with help from some sponsors. Heavyweight big tired backhalved and tube chassis cars run in this class, and they come packing a lot of horsepower for these races.
The Index classes at Cecil County also draw plenty of cars for some extremely tight racing. The three index classes include 8.50, 10.00, and 11.50.
There is also the Pro Dial class and Pro Street and Super Street. Pro Dial is run on a .500 pro tree and is a dial-in class reserved for street appearing cars. Pro Street is a full tree dial-in class for street legal cars. Super Street is the same as Pro Street except it is for non-tubbed cars on a DOT tire.
On going improvements are continuing to be made to the track as it has been repaved with concrete to the 1/8 mile over the winter. There are eight Street Car Shootout events on the schedule this season and one of them is the famed Yellowbullet Naitonals. Check out some of the wild action if you have the chance.
