David Reese To Debut New GT350 Mustang In Pro 275

Small-tire racing kingpin David Reese will debut a fresh new machine in the Pro 275 category at the upcoming U.S. Street Nationals in Bradenton, Florida. Owned by Chris Turner, the father of Reese Brothers Race Cars welder Dylan Turner, the 2019 model GT350 Mustang will sport power from the very same Noonan 4.6-inch bore space, supercharged Hemi that was utilized in Reese’s Radial versus The World Camaro and later, in his “OG” Camaro in Pro 275.

The Mustang project began in mid-2021 utilizing a 2019 body that was found wrecked in a salvage yard; it was initially imagined as a 4.84 bore-space nitrous car for no-time style racing, but after selling the “OG” Camaro late in the year and realizing there wasn’t time to build something new for the 2021 season, Reese switched gears and finished it as a Pro 275-legal chassis set up for a Hemi and a supercharger. The decision was made a mere three days before it was sent to powdercoat, and so the ever-quick Reese got to work making the necessary changes to de-accommodate a nitrous powerplant and hood scoop.

As you’d expect from a thoroughbred like this, the steel roof and quarters are paired with a carbon-fiber nose, doors, and decklid, and the factory bumper and taillights re-utilized.

The all-aluminum Noonan block and Hemi head combination is topped with a PSI screw-type supercharger, and is controlled by a FuelTech ECU; Reese is also using a Modern Racing harness to streamline the electronics. Behind the unique Hemi is a Liberty five-speed with a Ty-Drive lockup unit and a Neal Chance torque converter. This very combination, owned by Texan Rick Thornton, went a record-setting 3.51 in Radial versus The World in the fall of 2020, and mid-3.70s in its brief time in the “OG” last fall.

Reese and Turner kept the project, known as “Skitzo,” as quiet as possible until it was complete, and the finished product is no doubt a head-turner. The team will head to Florida next Tuesday to test ahead of its competitive debut.
