The 2014 NHRA Pro Mod season is about to kick off in Gainesville and things are already starting to get interesting. Precision Turbo and Engine made the announcement on Tuesday that their president, Harry Hruska, is making his return to doorslammer racing, with veteran wheelman Don Walsh Jr. handling the driving duties. The team’s weapon of choice will be the 1968 Camaro formerly campaigned by Brad Personett that has seen some very fast laps down the track.
The RJ Race Cars-built Camaro will of course be sporting Precision Gen2 Pro Mod turbos. A 521 cubic inch mill will motivate the car while a BigStuff 3 Powertrain System will keep everything under control. Harry Hruska himself will be putting the tune up in the hotrod when competition begins.
This combination of Hruska and Walsh has the potential to make some serious waves in the Pro Mod division. Back in 2010 with Personett behind the wheel and Hruska tuning the Camaro was setting records and won the Pro Mod season final in Las Vegas. Don Walsh Jr has seen some success in the cockpit of a Pro Mod scoring a win in 2012 at Norwalk and finishing third in the points standings.
“I’m very excited to be teaming up with Harry Hruska/Precision Turbo again for the 2014 NHRA Pro Mod season. In early testing we have made some nice runs and are really looking forward to a great season with some tough competition. I would also like to thank Brad Personett for all of his help in getting me comfortable in the car he has successfully campaigned for the past few years. I feel confident that we have assembled a first class team and am looking forward to many accomplishments,” stated Walsh. Additionally, two new sponsors, Strange Engineering and the IFL Group, will be on board for 2014.
With all of the cards now on the table this year’s Pro Mod season has the potential to be exciting to say the least. The first race has a full dance card with 28 cars the ultimate door slammer class has the potential to shine and put on a great show.
