At the turn of the 20th century there were hundreds, if not thousands of independent automakers and coach builders across the country. By 1950 though, there were maybe a dozen left, among them Studebaker. Despite a still-loyal following, Studebaker is an automotive marque that has all but disappeared from modern vernacular, although a few die-hards keep the dream alive.

One of those die-hards has seen fit to part with their baby on eBay, and we just couldn’t pass up this unique 1950 Studebaker Starlight Coupe that boasts 2,000 horsepower and a whole bunch of racing goodies.

As you can imagine, the 1950 Studebaker Starlight coupe did not come with massive wheel wells tubbed to hold drag slicks…but this ‘Stude does. It also comes with a custom drag racing chassis and a drab Army olive green paintjob, perhaps playing off of the post-World War II history of the automaker. It even features a bomber beauty, just like airmen used to paint on their planes for good luck.

But the real crowd pleaser is the 540 cubic-inch Big Block Chevy engine under the hood, cranking out around 2,000 horsepower. The 540 engine is topped with a supercharger pushing through 32 pounds of boost. Seeing as how a new Studebaker automobile hasn’t been built in almost 50 years, what are the chances of coming across another drag racer like this? Pretty slim, we reckon.
