In the 1950s America became enamored with the turbine engine, heralding in the jet age when everything was about fast planes and big tailfins. Planes and cars have always been heavily influenced by each other, and a handful of crazy people have even gone so far as to strap turbine engines to automotive chassis, creating an insane hybrid of pure performance.

We found just such an insane hybrid up for sale on eBay. This brand new, turbine-powered Jr. dragster is said to be one of a kind, and you’d have to be either the best dad in the world, or the worst, to buy this death trap for your kid.

Let’s skip all the other stuff and get right to the turbine gas engine, which is a Boeing 502-7 gas turbine. It’s an older design, first developed in 1957, and by 1968 the Turbine Division of Boeing was shuttered. Less than 2,500 of these gas-turbine engines were made, and they could churn out as much as 500 horsepower. With that kind of power, this is obviously something you may not want to put a child in, but fortunately, like with most Jr. Dragsters, an adult can easily fit down into the roll cage and drive this thing.

Considering the size of the turbine, 500 horsepower is actually a rather impressive number. The seller claims the turbine produces between 265 to 275 pounds of thrust, enough to get the aluminum dragster going fast…but how fast? The seller doesn’t say, which raises a few red flags. This is the kind of eBay purchase you want to know has been tested, frequently.

Then again, if you’re about to buy a turbine-powered Jr. Dragster, you’re probably not used to making sound, well-thought-out decisions. Just saying.
