“Street Racing” may be a loosely tossed around term these days, as in some places merely leaning on it hard from a standstill can get you nabbed for street racing, but when it comes down to actual side-by-side all-out action, the dangers a residential environment pose as compared to a drag racing facility are numerous. Rather than sit around using the usual tactics, Blue Line Racing and the Edmonton Police teamed up to set a real example, by whipping up a ’72 Pro Stock-style Duster, along with a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon to hit the race track proudly wearing the Edmonton Police paint scheme and light bar on the roof.

In their old-school ’72, a 410″ small block Mopar is put to use, pushing out roughly 600 hp through the 904 transmission and Dana 60 rear end. The Duster is specifically used for racing other police force’s teams, non-electronics classes and assorted exhibition races where in some cases, anyone that’s daring enough can grab a lane against Edmonton’s finest. In 2009 alone, Castrol Raceway held 20 of these events in which the Edmonton police participated in. Adhering to the Import crowd, Edmonton also houses a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon that’s boasting a 250hp 2.7L with a 50 shot of nitrous . It may not be the fastest car in Edmonton’s stable, but it’s certainly been appealing to a wide group of people from the younger generation.
It doesn’t stop there for Edmonton however, as they’ve most recently added a 2008 Dodge Challenger that’s still awaiting an engine, along with a 550HP, supercharged 2009 Mustang GT. If we had to nominate one police force for being the most fun-loving and thrill-seeking, we’d at least have to give an honorable mention to the guys in Edmonton, doing their best to bring street racing to a halt, and having a little fun in the process.
