The Summit Racing Equipment Fling presented by Total Seal Piston Rings delivered high-stakes bracket racing action Friday and Saturday at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, with Strange Engineering on Friday and ATI Performance Products on Saturday, each featuring $50,000-to-win main events.
On Friday, more than 430 entries, including 32 No-Box racers, staged for the first $50,000 purse of the weekend. In the Laris Motorsports Insurance No-Box final, Jaeden Durst picked up the $2,000 bonus and trophy after defeating Jennifer Vignola, then carried his momentum into the combined Box field.
The ladder featured six drivers: Victor Ellinger, Brian Willingham, Ryan Sparks, Zac Fulcher, Dylan Guy, and Glenn Ferguson Jr. Ellinger advanced with a .012 light and a dead-on pass, while Fulcher and Sparks were separated by just .004 at the stripe, with Fulcher moving on. Guy and Ferguson produced another tight matchup, with Guy edging out the win.
Ellinger and Fulcher advanced to the final with nearly flawless semifinal runs, setting up a dramatic finish. The final was decided by a mere thousandth of a second, with Ellinger crossing the line first to score his first-ever Fling victory. Just minutes before his 50th birthday, he celebrated the milestone with a $50,000 payday.
Saturday brought another $50,000 race, with 430 competitors chasing the ATI Performance Products top prize. Durst once again dominated the No-Box class, defeating Jordan Freshour to secure his second straight $2,000 bonus and another trophy.
In the Box field, six racers reached the ladder: Howard Westbury, Donovan Williams, Kayleigh May, Jason Jensen, Glenn Ferguson Jr., and Corey Hansen. Williams advanced with a .004 total package, while Jensen moved past May, and Hansen took out Ferguson. Hansen then defeated Jensen with a dead-on-zero run, while Williams advanced solo to the final.
The final paired Hansen’s leaf-sprung 1964 Chevy II Wagon against Williams’ proven machine. At the stripe, Hansen edged out the win by just .002 seconds, earning his first Fling victory and the $50,000 prize. The win was particularly meaningful, as Hansen nearly sold his entry after engine trouble just weeks prior, but instead returned to Norwalk and scored one of the weekend’s richest victories.
With Durst’s back-to-back No-Box wins and career-first Fling triumphs for both Ellinger and Hansen, the Norwalk Fling delivered dramatic performances and storybook finishes across two days of big-money racing.
