The competition in the NHRA’s two-wheeled Pro Stock Motorcycle division seems to stiffen up just a little bit more with each passing season, and with the return of a former multi-time national event winner to the mix in 2011, the class is going to be just that much tougher to qualify and go rounds.

Chip Ellis, a six-time NHRA national event winner and a former national record holder in the NHRA will return full-time to racing this season aboard a Harry Lartigue owned Buell V-Twin. Power will be supplied by Vance & Hines, which has powered veteran Lartigue’s motorcycles for more than 20 years and is also Ellis’ employer when he’s not out ripping up the quarter mile. Their 2011 racing efforts will be backed by Kuryakyn, an accessory manufacturer for Harley Davidson, Goldwing, and other motorcycles.

Through his long tenure in the sport, Lartigue has been instrumental in the development of up and coming riders, including Michael Phillips, past Indy winner Reggie Showers, and Peggy Llewellyn.

Ellis made his NHRA debut in 2004 aboard a Star Racing/G2 machine and finished in the top five three consecutive seasons. He last rode in 2008 aboard a Suzuki owned by Don Schumacher Racing.

Ellis, Lartigue, and company have already begun testing early this week at the Palm Beach International Raceway in preparation for their debut at the opening event for the two-wheeled category this weekend at the Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida. The team will compete at all 16 Pro Stock Motorcycle events on the NHRA Full Throttle tour.
