Brazilian businessman and NHRA Pro Modified veteran Sidnei Frigo will compete behind the wheel of this immaculate new 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle in 2021. The car, sporting horsepower from Pro Line and boost from ProCharger, was finished by Justin Elkes and team at Modern Racing and is making its debut at this weekend’s U.S. Street Nationals in Bradenton, Florida.
The car was a collaboration between Modern Racing and Jerry Bickel Race Cars and features PLR’s popular and proven ProCharger F3 and 526 cubic-inch all-billet Hemi engine combination. A full compliment of FuelTech electronics control the sleek new machine, including its brand new FT injectors. The Hemi is backed by an M&M Turbo 400 and converter package.
“We ran a C7 Corvette for a couple seasons and planned on building a Chevelle, but we came across a ’69 Camaro that was closer to compeletion and Sidnei bought it,” crewman Brandon Stroud shares. “We still had the Chevelle in the back of our minds as the next car we wanted to build, so when the time came around, we went ahead with it. It’s something different and it mixes things up in the class. It’s mostly all Camaro’s [in the class] now, so this is a nice change. And Sidnei really likes the Chevelle — it’s a cool looking racecar, and we think the body is aero enough to compete.”
“We want to shake this car down and go after a championship. We built a newer, lighter car, and we think this car will be able to accomplish that,” Stroud adds.
