The NHRA, in accordance with class founder and director John Sears, has revealed the final five drivers who will take part in the first-ever X275 drag radial exhibition, “The Pilgrimage”, at this summer’s NHRA New England Nationals in Epping, New Hampshire.
New England X275 (NEX275) promoter Torrey Browne was first to unveil his list of drivers for the 10-car contest that will take place during Friday’s rounds of qualifying at the June 2-4 event; that half of the driver lineup includes Mark Dykeman, Scott MacDonald, Robert Baptista, Tommy DePriest, and Manny Buginga. The collection of Northeast runners will take on a who’s-who of X275 hitters, including many-time
race winner and current record holder Rich Bruder, Dean Marinis in his nitrous car, Pro Mod standout Kevin Fiscus in Chris Matters’ turbocharged Mustang, Brendan Mills, and naturally-aspirated runner Alex Hays.
The 10 competitors taking part in “The Pilgrimage” will get one time trial during sportsman qualifying on the morning of Friday, June 2 and will then participate in a “call out” prior to the opening round of eliminations. The first round is scheduled to take place at 1:30 p.m., with round two going off just prior to the first round of professional Mello Yello Series qualifying, and commencing with the final round prior to the evening’s final qualifying session, in primetime.
The winner of “The Pilgrimage” will earn a special acrylic NHRA Wally trophy for their efforts, along with the distinction of earning the NHRA’s first and, thus far, only national event radial tire title.
