Greg Anderson and his Summit Racing-backed Ken Black Racing team may not be back to their early 2000s form when they were winning nearly everything in sight, but the veteran Pro Stock racer and four-time series champion is looking as strong as he has at any point since during the 2015 campaign — and he may be well on his way to a fifth title. Of course, teammate Jason Line, who nearly won the championship last year, is among the top contenders, as well.
The KB Racing team, who run Holley Gen 3 Dominator carburetors atop their 500 cubic inch naturally-aspirated GM powerplants, have collected wins at five of the seasons’ first 10 races, with Anderson scoring three and Line two. Two of those victories have come at the most recent events on the calendar, as Anderson claimed wins at Englishtown and Epping, New Hampshire on back-to-back weekends. At the Gatornationals in Florida in March and at Atlanta in May, the two teammates met up in the final round, splitting the matches at one apiece.
With his hot streak in the Northeast, Anderson presently leads the Pro Stock standings by 70 points, while Line is third, 131 back.
The KB team switched to the Gen 3 Holley Dominators at mid-season in 2013 and immediately enjoyed improved on-track success. The Gen 3 carburetors were designed specifically for hardcore racing applications, with a main-body 5/16-inch taller than previous generation Dominators, which allows for larger radius air entries for better airflow into the fully machined, big bore venturi. The all-aluminum bodies are 3.8 lbs. lighter than previous generations, and the fuel bowls have 20-percent more capacity, while the billet aluminum metering blocks are fully adjustable, with improved gasket sealing.
“The Holley team put a lot of work into the Gen 3, says Bill Tichenor, Holley’s Director of Marketing. “We’re glad to see them in action in the tough world of NHRA Pro Stock racing. Our engineers listened to what racers needed to be competitive, and we responded with a powerful carburetor that’s also easily adjusted at the track.”
