The words “drag racing” and “free” are rarely used in the same sentence, but don’t tell that to the officials at Tulsa Raceway Park. This weekend – on May 18 and 19 – Tulsa Raceway Park in Oklahoma will be holding their annual ” Throw Down in T- Town” event. The race will be headlined buy an Eight Car Pro Extreme Shoot out with a prize of $5,000.
Drivers take note: the Pro Extreme qualifying will be a little different at the “Throw Down in T-Town.” The race park crew plan to take the fastest 24 Pro Modifiers and then, the quickest eight of that group will make up the Pro Extreme Class. The remaining 16 will make up what they’re calling an Open Pro-mod class that will compete for $2,500.
In addition, Tulsa Raceway Park will have other classes so drivers can “throw down.” The classes are: an Outlaw 10.5 class that will battle for a $1,750 prize; the OTT5 Hot Street cars whose drivers can vie for $2,500; and a Top Dragster Faceoff for the $1,200 winnings. Other racing classes are SDRA, Junior Pro 1, Junior Pro2, and Fuel Bikes, to include various monetary awards.
Not surprising, the prizes, hype and glory of this big “Thrown Down in T-Town” event has piqued the interest of several drivers from miles around. Some Top Pro-mod Drivers are lining up to burn rubber and make a presence this weekend. So, when does it all start? On Friday, spectator gates open at 5:00 p.m. and the first round of professional qualifying starts at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday the gates open at 9:00 a.m. and racing begins at 11:00 a.m.If you find yourself in Tulsa this weekend and free is your favorite price, Tulsa Raceway Park can provide some high horsepower entertainment.
