Lets face it, sometimes rules can really put a damper on your plans. While we can all agree that certain rules are in the best interest of the racer’s safety, sometimes there’s rules that just really make you wonder what kind of purpose they really serve. Sure, you can always take a trip out to a Test N’ Tune and hope you might get a chance of running someone that’s running close to you ET-wise that’ll put up a good race, but having been there it doesn’t happen on a regular basis. What better solution, than a good ole run what ya brung drag racing event? Better yet, with extremely minimal rules – only specifics being that you need a helmet and the battery be fastened down properly. Easy enough, right?
Where was this? Out at the Inde Motorsports Ranch in Wilcox, Arizona – a private facility, but all it took was some racers getting together and organizing this event. Check out some pictures from the action over on Yellow Bullet. Also, feel free to contact the thread creator on there to see how you can get your very own car in this event in the future.
While the Ranch is more well-known for the impressive road course, there is a massive straight-away, that end-to-end is roughly a mile or so. Most guys were running the traditional 1/4 mile, but racers could also line up and make a run to the half mile if they so choose. Best of all, a mere $50 dollar entry fee, that lets you run as long as the daylight permits.
The car count may not have been as spectacular as say something like the ADRL finals, but many people brought their own hot rods out to give this new racing environment a try. The event is likely to be held again, so long as the cars keep coming -why not come out and support this new wave of heads-up racing? Check out a little taste of what went on at this event in the gallery below
