We recently took a look at the kind of safety gear to consider buying if you plan on running advanced E.T.s, certain fuels, or power-adders. High-quality safety equipment isn’t cheap, so you want to do everything you can to make sure it lasts. If you take care of your gear, companies like Impact Racing will even recertify certain SFI-rated products.

Regardless the type of safety gear you wear, it has a predetermined life-cycle that’s based on how effective it will be over time. The SFI foundation and safety manufacturers have determined for many pieces of safety equipment that the lifespan is about five years. Impact Racing will extend the length of time you can use its SFI-rated 15 and 20 driver suits through a recertification process.

There are a few limits to what suits that Impact will recertify. The suit must be manufactured by Impact and have an SFI rating of 3.2 A/15 or 3.2 A/20. A suit must have been manufactured on or after January 1st, 2012 to be eligible for recertification. Impact will recertify a suit one time only, so don’t send them a suit that has already been through the recertification process.

The process to have a suit recertified is simple, and provided there aren’t any issues, Impact will recertify your gear and send it back with a new SFI tag. Impact only charges $75 per suit for inspection and recertification, and considering how much an SFI rated 3.2 A/15 or 3.2 A/20 suit costs, that’s a good deal.
