The IHRA has officially announced the acquisition of Empire Dragway, a long-standing staple of the New York racing scene. The move represents a significant step in the organization’s broader strategy to invest in key facilities across the United States and strengthen its presence at the track level.

Located in Leicester, New York, Empire Dragway has built a reputation as one of the region’s most respected venues. With a loyal racer base, strong fan support, and a history of competitive events, the track has become a cornerstone of Northeast drag racing.

That foundation is exactly what attracted IHRA leadership.

“This is exactly the kind of facility we want to invest in,” said Darryl Cuttell, Owner of IHRA. “Empire Dragway has a strong foundation and a loyal racing community. Our goal is to build on that momentum. We will be bringing more opportunities for racers, bigger events for fans, and ensuring this track continues to thrive for years to come.”

Rather than reinventing the facility, IHRA’s approach appears focused on enhancing what’s already there. Plans for the track include strategic upgrades aimed at improving the racer experience, boosting fan engagement, and ensuring long-term sustainability. That means infrastructure improvements, enhanced safety measures, and a renewed emphasis on delivering a high-quality race day experience.

For longtime track owner Jerry Scaccia, the decision to transition ownership to IHRA comes with confidence in the direction of the sport.

“Empire Dragway has meant so much to me and to this community over the years,” said Scaccia. “I’m proud of what we’ve built here, and I truly believe IHRA is the right group to take it to the next level. Their vision for the future of the sport and commitment to racers gives me full confidence that Empire is in great hands.”

The facility is set to host the Outlaw Nitro Series and Small Tire BRATZ Series on July 23–25, 2026, events that will serve as an early showcase of what the track can deliver under its new ownership. With expanded programming expected in the future, Empire could quickly become one of IHRA’s flagship venues.
