The IHRA saga has taken a predictable turn. This time, it involves the racetracks owned by embattled Darryl Cuttell. Numerous facilities, including GALOT, Piedmont, Milan, National Trail Raceway, and Dragway 42, are all listed for sale on Tranzon’s website here.
It has been a wild 18 months in the world of drag racing thanks to the turmoil that has surrounded the IHRA. Darryl Cuttell purchased the sanctioning body and then went on an absolute tear, purchasing nearly a dozen facilities. The plans and vision were grand, but the results were less than ideal.

There was a revolving door of experienced industry professionals at the IHRA. Then there were the unsustainable payouts and revenue model. Finally, the wheels fell off in spectacular fashion with event cancellations, followed by the entire IHRA professional tour collapsing.
All that remained were the tracks that continued operating despite all of the problems surrounding Cuttell and the IHRA. Now, the tracks are all up for auction, and their futures as racing facilities are in question.
Dragzine will continue to follow this story as it develops.
