There was some drama in the JBS Equipment NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by Elite Motorsports pits at the U.S. Nationals.
Jason Collins, who raced his way into the Pro Mod Road to the Championship playoffs in epic fashion, had all of his qualifying runs at the Big Go disallowed after a blower infraction was found by the tech department. Collins had one chance to make the field during the final qualifying session, but had to abort the run. Now, Collins, who came into the U.S. Nationals sixth in points, is in a deep hole as the Road to the Championship kicks off.
Instead of letting speculation linger about what happened, Collins’ team owner, Scott Tidwell, spoke with Courtney Enders Hyde to clear the air on exactly what happened.
“They said the blower was not exactly how it was built at PSI and shipped to us. They said that any modifications void the part number and also the SFI rating. The blowers are the same that we’ve had and run before, I really don’t know where this is coming from,” Tidwell says.
The NHRA hasn’t issued a statement yet on Collins’ infraction or if there will be any additional penalties. We will continue to follow this story and update it if a statement is made by the NHRA tech department.
