Kooks Custom Headers-equipped racers have been performing well so far this season in NMCA and NMRA competition.
Mark Micke has been on a tear all season long in the NMCA‘s Super Street 10.5W class with four wins in the four races he has attended. Driving Jason Carter’s gorgeous blue ’78 Malibu, Micke has been unstoppable, and has an insurmountable points lead of 1,275 points over the next closest racer, Willard Kinzer. This same car was in the running for the championship last year at the hands of Eric LaFerriere with Micke as the crew chief, and they haven’t lost a step after the driver switch entering this year. Micke also scored the first-ever ADRL Pro Drag Radial title in this same car this season.
Also sitting atop the points chase in his class is Sponge Bob Curran, who’s leading in Xtreme Street by a wide margin — 655 points over John Warren. Sponge Bob is a past champion in Xtreme Street and is looking to return to his perch atop the slick-tire class.
At last weekend’s NMRA World Finals, Coyote Stock competitor Jacob Lamb qualified in the top spot with an outstanding-for-the-conditions 10.72 at 124 MPH, ending Shane Stymiest’s run of five straight races as the top qualifier.
Lamb continued his run during eliminations, besting 2012 class champion HiPo Joe Charles in the final round with a stout 10.58 end-to-end win in one of the hottest classes in drag racing.
While Mike Murillo isn’t in the hunt for the title in Super Street 10.5, he’s ending his season on a high note after qualifying atop the field at the recent Shakedown at the Summit event at Summit Motorsports Park in Ohio.
Murillo led the Heavy Street field into eliminations with a full two-tenth lead on the competition before racing was halted due to poor weather conditions. Murillo will also be competing at the NMCA World Street Finals in Indy and is looking to play the spoiler role in what is sure to be a tough field of racers.
