At just about any NHRA level of racing there’s bound to be secret developments underway just about any moment the clock is ticking. This is especially true in the world of Pro-Stock, where every horsepower or every tenth of a second shaved off the E/T is crucially important to running a successful team. A key name in the Pro Stock class for quite some time has been Larry Morgan, who now pilots a Lucas-oil products backed Ford Mustang. As of late, he’s been doing quite well with it as teams struggle with this new Ford power plants.
While we surfed through DART’s Facebook Page, we saw something interesting – Larry Morgan alongside Richard Maskin, and DART’s Pro-Stock engine builder Jeff Lake discussing some engine technology along with some hands-on interaction out in the shop.
Morgan has much more on his plate than some other competitors, being that all of his engines are done in house at his award-winning shop in Ohio. Bringing Ford back into the Pro Stock class attempting to be competitive after their absence for years is quite difficult for Morgan and others. Morgan has made several comments about their downfalls thus far, while he noted horsepower wasn’t an issue, he did make note that these engines were wanting something a little different in the tuning department, and that he’d like to put an end to hurting engines so much.
With that in mind, could Morgan’s next step be either gaining a multitude of knowledge that DART obviously has, or possibly even having DART whip him up an engine package? There’s no official word yet, but we’re certain they weren’t having a leisurely talk about last night’s baseball game.
Larry Morgan currently sits 13th in the Pro Stock points standings (A mere 3 points behind Rickie Jones in 12th) as the NHRA rolls into Las Vegas this weekend for the SummitRacing.com Nationals.
