With lucrative pensions and, in many cases, even job security, a thing of the past, one of the attributes that job seekers these days share is most desirable in their career search is something that’s rewarding and potentially even allows them to travel. And, while as drag racers we might be somewhat biased here, our opinion is that few things could be as rewarding as having a hand in making a 300 mph Funny Car tick — especially one piloted by one of the best in the business and a two-time NHRA champion.
Never mind that doing so would provide plenty of opportunity to travel.
If you happen to be in the job market, or you’re ready to drop everything to seize a dream job in motorsports, then Cruz Pedregon Racing has your e-ticket.
The team, owned by the Funny Car vet, posted an ad this week seeking a crew member for the 2016 NHRA season to do bottom end work on the 10,000 horsepower engines powering its Snap-On Tools-backed machine. Not only will you get paid to work on race cars day in and day out — the world’s fastest race cars, at that — but you’ll also criss-cross the country and see the sights as the tour navigates through its 24-race schedule, from California and Nevada clear to New Hampshire.
A Class-A CDL (commercial drivers license) and a clean driving record are part of the requirements, as is experience working on race cars, preferably nitro cars, and the willingness to relocate to the Indianapolis area.
For anyone that’s ever wanted to get into the business of racing, and has at least some experience working on legitimate race cars, this is an opportunity worth jumping all over. Unlike the days when there was more sponsorship to go around in drag racing and more teams populated the landscape, getting a foot in the door to the sport these days can be a lot tougher. There are a fewer jobs to go around, and more than enough skilled and qualified people to fill them.
