Just ahead of this past weekends’ 54th annual running of the fabled March Meet in Bakersfield, longtime racer and team owner Gary Turner, along with McCleod Racing Clutches’ Paul Lee, announced new sponsorship support of Turners’ “Pedaler” Nostalgia Funny Car driven by Kris Krabill on the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series circuit.
“McLeod Racing is proud to support driver Kris Krabill and the Pedaler Nostalgia Funny Car team of Gary Turner and tuned by Cory Lee,” said McLeod’s owner Paul Lee. “I believe Kris, Gary, Cory and their team are hard working and dedicated hard core drag racers, who live and breath the sport, just like I do.”
Turner is best known as the founder of the GT Bicycles brand in the late 1970’s, while team crew chief Cory Lee is a former “big show” Funny Car driver, crew member, and tuner for a number of different teams.
Krabill, from Orange, Calif., qualified third in the ultra tough Funny Car category on Saturday in Bakersfield with a great 5.71 and downed Donny Watkins in the opening round by a 5.81 to 6.01 count. An even quicker 5.78 in the second round was more than enough to send Dale Van Gundy packing, but in the semifinals, Krabill’s 5.85 couldn’t match eventual runner-up Chad Head’s 5.84 paired with a quicker reaction time. Not that a semifinal finish at the most prestigious and toughest nostalgia race of the year is anything to hang your head about.
