Mendola’s Motorsports started in 1992 by Joseph Mendola and sons with a 73 Chevy Vega NHRA Super Gas car. Then they went onto a NHRA Super Comp dragster, with driver Chris Mendola. Since 2002, the team has grown to a Pro Modified drag car, known as the fastest door slammers on the planet.
They started with a NHRA 6-second certified 69 Z28 on nitrous then changed over to the 871 blower combination. Further down the road, they built the famous 68 Orange, using a 400 cubic inch blown small block Chevy Camaro from Scotty’s Racing Technology in Spring Hill, Florida. The first full 1/8 mile run was a 4.74 @ 151mph.

While they are pleased with the performance of “Mighty Mouse” it’s just not enough power to be competitive in the class. The plans for the team are to be ready for the June 5th Heads Up Madness at Sunshine Drag Strip and make some runs on low power settings until they have time to install a floater rear, which is required when running below 4.30’s. The series will resume in September after a summer break where Aaron Sipple will be on hand tuning the car in an effort at the track record which is in the mid teens and currently held by “Fast” Frank Cersosimo’s nitrous huffing Mopar powered Avenger.
