When it comes to building a rearend that can survive modern power levels, one size definitely doesn’t fit all. Moser Engineering understands that better than most, and the company’s latest stamped 9-inch housings are aimed at giving racers and builders a smarter way to match strength to application, without reinventing a design that’s already proven itself for decades.
The new Moser stamped 9-inch housings are built around the classic Ford 9-inch geometry that drag racers trust, but they’re offered in three distinct strength levels. That means whether you’re restoring a street car, putting together a weekend bracket ride, or making serious horsepower for a heads up machine, there’s a housing designed to take the abuse.

“With the Standard Duty 9-inch, everything is stamped here in the U.S. We basically have a 9-inch that uses a 3-inch tube with a 3/16- or 1/4-inch wall, and that’s our standard line,” explained Jeff Anderson, Moser Engineering’s marketing director.
That Standard Duty housing is right at home in street-performance and mild drag applications. It’s available in both notchback and round-back configurations and provides a solid foundation for traditional axle and gear setups without unnecessary weight or cost.

Step up in power or traction, and Moser’s Heavy Duty stamped 9-inch is the next rung on the ladder. Still using a 3-inch tube, the Heavy Duty version adds material thickness and strength where it counts. Visually and structurally, it reflects what many racers picture when they think of an old-school heavy-duty 9-inch pulled from a truck, only built with modern precision and materials.
“For severe-duty applications, the Extreme Duty 9-inch is where things really ramp up,” Anderson said. “It’s a 1/4-inch-thick steel, relaxed radius housing, and it’s set up to work with all the heaviest-duty applications.”

The Extreme Duty housing is aimed squarely at high-horsepower drag cars and heavy hitters that demand maximum rigidity. It’s designed to accept larger axle tubes, up to 3¼ inches, giving builders even more strength and stability when launching hard on big power.
By offering multiple stamped housing options instead of a one-size-fits-all solution, Moser is giving racers the ability to build smarter. You get the classic 9-inch layout that works, paired with a housing that’s appropriately matched to your horsepower, tire, and usage.
