Earlier this year, Tim McAmis Race Cars in Missouri put the finishing touches on one of the most spectacular Pro Modified racing machines ever built, doing so under the radar for the Moits Racing team and driver Paul Mouhayet our of Australia.

With a virtually unlimited and untamed engine combination under the hood of the Shelby super Snake body and a chassis that could take everything the Moits team would want to throw at it, combined with Mouhayets’ penchant to drive race cars like he stole them, there was little doubt this new piece would steal some headlines and more than a few records once it hit the track.

And at the Street Car Super Nationals X in Las Vegas over the weekend, it finally did.

The Mustang, the very first of its kind out of the Tim McAmis shop, built specifically for high-horsepower turbocharged engine combinations, made the fastest pass ever recorded by a full-bodied doorslammer when Mouhayet wheeled the sinister black machine to a 5.637 at a blazing 273.39 mph.

Mouhayet clicked off a 5.76 at 260 mph in just his second outing on the 1/4-mile with the car, and only got quicker and faster from there. he want 5.72 at 267.91 in the first round of qualifying, and then a 5.68 at 271.90 in the third session. He followed that up in eliminations with a 5.70 at 270.00 to open eliminations, and a 5.65 at 271.46 in round two, and put up a hell of a fight against No. 2 qualifier Eric Dillard in the quarters, running the aforementioned record-setting pass of 5.63 and 273 mph, which came up a little short of Dillard’s blistering 5.57 at 266.

Interestingly enough, with the Pro Modified speed record in-hand, Mouhayet is now the fastest man in the world with a full-bodied car on both 10.5W and big tires.
