MSD Ignition has long been a integral part of the drag racing landscape, with their high performance ignition systems powering straightline machines from all walks for more than 20 years. In 2011, MSD’s all new Power Grid Ignition System will be legal for use in the NHRA popular sportsman racing categories, including Alcohol Dragster, Alcohol Funny Car, Pro Modified, Competition Eliminator, Top Sportsman, Top Dragster, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street.
In addition, the Power Grid has also been accepted for use by the IHRA in the Top Sportsman, Top Dragster, Super Stock, Stock, Quick Rod, Super Rod, and Hot Rod sportsman eliminators.
The Power Grid Ignition is MSD’s next generation of popular Programmable Ignition Controls, with a new system designed around a new software platform that provides more programming control over the RPM and timing functions than ever before. It is also the first system that shares communication capabilities with Racepak data acquisition systems, a sister brand to MSD.
Every NHRA Pro Stock championship in recent years has been won using MSD’s Programmable 7 ignition. Small tire doorslammer racers rely on these programmable units as well, and the Power Grid represents the next step in the evolution of MSD programmable ignition. The Power Grid controller may be used with any MSD ignition or the Pro Mag to provide the advanced tuning capabilities that professional and series racers demand.
