The Summit Racing Equipment Mid-West Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service is taking another step toward expanding its already impressive lineup of doorslammer racing.
Series officials announced the addition of the Quarter-Max Pro Extreme Exhibition Class for the final two races of the 2026 MWDRS season. The exhibition category will debut at Tulsa Raceway Park on October 23-24 before returning for the season finale at Xtreme Raceway Park on November 6-7.
Rather than immediately adding another championship division, MWDRS officials are using the two-event exhibition as a proving ground to determine whether Pro Extreme deserves a permanent place in the series beginning in 2027.
The move reflects the series’ racer-first philosophy while giving competitors another opportunity to race in one of the country’s premier doorslammer organizations.
Testing The Future Of MWDRS Competition
MWDRS owner Keith Haney emphasized that the exhibition format is designed to gather feedback from every corner of the sport before making a long-term commitment.
“The Mid-West Drag Racing Series has always been about listening to racers and building the sport of drag racing,” said Keith Haney, owner of the MWDRS. “Pro Extreme has generated a lot of interest over the years, and we felt the best way to evaluate its future with the MWDRS was to put it on the racetrack. This exhibition gives everyone from the stands to the sponsors an opportunity to see the class in action before we make any decisions for next season.”
Instead of relying on speculation, MWDRS will evaluate racer participation, fan interest, sponsor engagement, and feedback from participating tracks before determining whether the class becomes part of the 2027 championship lineup.
Quarter-Max Backs The New Program
Serving as title sponsor of the exhibition class, Quarter-Max Race Cars immediately embraced the opportunity to help introduce Pro Extreme to the MWDRS audience.
Company owner Clyde Scott believes the class offers something unique within modern Pro Mod racing by reducing power-adder restrictions and creating a more balanced field where more teams have a realistic opportunity to compete.

Scott’s comments underscore one of the biggest selling points of the class, creating competitive racing while lowering some of the competitive barriers that often separate established teams from newer entrants.
Building Toward A Possible 2027 Championship Class
Haney believes Quarter-Max was the ideal partner to launch the exhibition and reiterated that MWDRS will only expand if the class proves it adds value to the series.
“Quarter-Max has become one of the premier chassis builders in drag racing, and we’re proud to have them involved with this new program. Clyde’s passion for the class and understanding of what it can offer racers made Quarter-Max the perfect partner for this exhibition. We want to give racers another place to compete while putting on the best possible show for our fans.
“We’ve never been about adding classes just to add classes. We’re going to listen to our racers, our fans, our marketing partners, and our tracks. If everyone believes this class belongs in the MWDRS, we’ll seriously evaluate making it part of our 2027 championship lineup.”
That measured approach has been one of the defining characteristics of MWDRS growth over the past several seasons, allowing the series to expand while maintaining strong racer participation and competitive fields.
September Smackdown Still Under Consideration
Although the Quarter-Max Pro Extreme Exhibition Class is officially confirmed for the Tulsa and Xtreme Raceway Park events, MWDRS officials are also exploring the possibility of adding the category to the September Smackdown at Flying H Drag Strip.
Series officials are currently working to secure additional sponsorship support that would allow the exhibition class to compete at the September event. A final decision is expected in the coming weeks.
Quarter-Max Pro Extreme Race Format
Competitors will race for an $18,000 guaranteed purse using a traditional MWDRS event format featuring an eight-car qualified field.
Qualifying Schedule
- Two qualifying sessions on Friday night
- One qualifying session on Saturday morning
- Eliminations begin immediately following the first round of Stroud Safety Pro Mod competition on Saturday
Guaranteed Purse
- Winner: $10,000
- Runner-Up: $2,500
- Semi-Finalists: $1,250
- Quarter-Finalists: $750
Entry Information
Drivers interested in competing can expect a straightforward entry structure.
- Entry Fee: $450
- Crew Weekend Pass: $65
- Optional Testing: $350
Straightforward Rules Package
MWDRS has intentionally kept the rules package simple to encourage participation while maintaining safety and competitive parity.
Key rules include:
- No double power-adder combinations
- No nitro-powered entries
- Cars must meet all applicable NHRA safety requirements or equivalent IHRA or PDRA standards
- Drivers must possess a valid NHRA, IHRA, or PDRA competition license
- Cars may not double-enter into another class, including Stroud Safety Pro Mod Presented by Larry Jeffers Race Cars
- All entries must have a current NHRA, IHRA, or PDRA chassis certification
To make participation easier, an NHRA Chassis Inspector will be available at each event for certification inspections and renewals.
If participation is strong and feedback is positive over the final two events of the 2026 season, the Quarter-Max Pro Extreme Exhibition could become the newest championship class when the Mid-West Drag Racing Series returns in 2027.
