New Look, More Power for Marasco’s Radial Fox

Archie raced his Mustang for several years with the same basic 347 cubic inch engine eventually running 7.90 @ 188 at Orlando’s World Street Nationals. While that ET is certainly a respectable accomplishment, it’s not going to go too far in today’s competitive Drag Radial events. The eighth mile equivalent is in the low 5 second range which is no longer enough to go rounds even in the local series. After trying a stint in the Real Street class with a 76 mm turbo and having limited success at running a competitive number with the restricted turbo rules, Archie and Walt Drakeford sat down to discuss the future plans for the car.

They decided to ditch the little 347 and step up to what they felt would be a competitive combo. They settled on a 427 inch engine and sourced a fresh set of Yates heads from South Florida racer Chris Owens. The engine was built in house at Real Speed Racing and will be fed by twin Precision GT-47/88 MM turbos.

Performance expectations are in the 4.7 to 4.80 range in the eighth mile which should be much more competitive especially, in local radial events and they plan to be testing sometime in August.

The outward appearance went from the true flames over purple to “Guinea orange”, which is not to be confused with “Goss Knows” orange. Archie’s friend Jimmy Veenstra took care of the paint and body work, ProFab-Performance powder coated the wheels and the valve covers to match.

The ignition is a MSD Digital 7 plus while engine management is a F.A.S.T. XFI with a F.A.S.T. ECU Data Logger. A Turbo Action Cheetah shifter changes gears in the Trans R Us built Powerglide transmission. During the swap the ise tank was also moved up to the passenger area.
An 8.8 Ford Rear filled with all the necessary goodies for reliable use including 33 spline axles sits out back. Dual Aerospace calipers help hold the car still while building boost on the line. Coil over shocks and a double anti roll bar help with consistant straight launches. The Pro Link upper relocation brackets allow changes to the instant center with a bolt in part. The 25.5 chassis was also built in house.
