The National Hot Rod Association’s (NHRA) longtime headquarters in Glendora, California has been placed up for sale, per a report issued by Autoweek. Real estate firm Colliers International has brokered the listing, which hit the market within the last week.
The NHRA plans to relocate its day-to-day operations to existing offices on the grounds of the Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, but will retain part of its executive staff at a more right-sized site on the West coast. Some personnel have already relocated to Indianapolis.
The Glendora office, constructed in 1985, encompasses 28,335 square feet of office space and 5,000 square feet of warehouse space on 1.65 acres, situated Northeast of Los Angeles in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains and a short drive from the Auto Club Raceway in Pomona. While a price has not been published, Autoweek reports the assessed value of the property at just over $4.6 million.
The sales comes just weeks after the non-profit sanctioning body offloaded another of its major properties, Georgia’s Atlanta Dragway. That sale, intended to raise funds for the organization to re-invest in its other raceway properties, is likely to spell the demise of racing activities at the 40-year-old facility. Each of the sales comes amid the hardest economic times the entertainment industry has faced in modern times, a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and is seen by many as a financial restructuring after a season in which fewer than half of the originally scheduled events were contested and spectator turnout was severely limited by city and state restrictions.
