No Prep Nitrous: Kendal Goin Wins With Holey Moley Plate System

No prep racing requires a tuner to be very skilled with power management when they’re dialing up how much horsepower they want to use. If nitrous is the power-adder of choice for your program, you really need to balance the power you’re trying to put down, versus what the surface you’re racing on will accept.

Kendall Goin has picked up a lot of wins in his nitrous-huffing 1988 Mustang thanks to the Induction Solutions Holey Moley plate system that rests on top of the big block Chevy that powers the car. The Holey Moley plate allows Goin to stuff plenty of nitrous into his engine, but that’s not the main reason this system works so well in a no prep environment.

“This system provides a lot of control and allows me to really put a good tune-up in the car based on the conditions. We can make a lot of power with this system using the smaller solenoids, so that means it won’t hammer the tire nearly as much during a run. The system is very smooth when it comes to power application, it works well with our progressive controller, and it’s very consistent. The nitrous distribution is spot on and the engine is very happy. We log our air/fuel ratio and I’ve never had a nitrous system that kept such an even air/fuel ratio during a run. The air/fuel ratio doesn’t get choppy or lean out with this plate,” Goin says.

The big advantage the Holey Moley plate system gives no prep racers like Goin is how much control they have over the tire of the car. Wheel speed is very important when you’re racing on any surface, but it’s one of the biggest factors for success in no prep racing.

“You can keep the tire happier during the run with this plate. This system gives us control over the nitrous to the 60-foot, but also to the middle of the track and beyond on each pass. What I mean by that is the tire speed is being controlled and that makes the car much faster. It just really gives us a lot of control over the torque the system makes, and the plate gives us a lot of control over the power management,” Goin explains.
