Drag racing fans know that nitro flows through certain families, and the Oberhofer brothers are living proof of that legacy. After carving out their own highly successful paths in the sport, Jim and Jon are finally teaming up again to chase championships under the Rick Ware Racing banner.

The dynamic duo will take the reins of two potent Top Fuel entries this season. Jim steps up to turn the wrenches for eight-time champion Tony Schumacher, while Jon takes over the tuning duties for fan-favorite Clay Millican. To make this leadership group even stronger, veteran tuner Nicky Boninfante joins the fold as the co-crew chief for both dragsters. Team owner Rick Ware recognized the rare opportunity to bring these legends together, noting that chemistry matters just as much as horsepower when races are decided by thousandths of a second. Ware specifically praised the built-in trust and understanding that the Oberhofer brothers bring to the pit area.

Both siblings boast incredible resumes built through decades of hard work. Jim previously guided Millican to five event victories, including a massive win at the 2024 U.S. Nationals, before moving over to Schumacher’s car late last year. Meanwhile, Jon arrives from Kalitta Motorsports with a massive list of accolades that includes multiple championships.

Jon mentioned that he and his brother do not even need to explain much to each other because they already know what the other is thinking. He added that entering the shop with elite drivers and a familiar face like Boninfante felt perfectly comfortable right away. Jim shared a similar sentiment by explaining that they have spent their whole lives around these cars, making this shared opportunity incredibly special.

The newly formed brain trust has a prime opportunity to dominate the nitro ranks this year. With a historic 75th anniversary season kicking off at the Gatornationals in early March, all eyes will certainly be on the Rick Ware Racing canopy. If their past success is any indicator, the Oberhofer brothers are completely ready to put their drivers right in the center of the winner’s circle.
