ORTC Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia SAME DAY Coverage

SELECT COVERAGE BY DAY:

Saturday is raceday here at SGMP and it’s quite a bit warmer but we have some overcast skies today. We are set to start the third qualifying session at 10AM.

When you come to an ORTC/UORS race be prepared to play hard on Friday night after a long day of qualifying. We had Dunedin’s own The Stick Martin Show come up to play a few sets of good tunes last night in front of the hospitality tent and the food line was wrapped around the back.

This morning pit rounds are thanks to Steve Cannizio at CRT Transmissions. First I drove down to the spectator parking area to check things out and found Francis Johnson. He has a new glass nose on the car and some other work on the front half of the chassis including swapping to strut front from AJE. The local series allows the nitrous cars to be 3000 lbs so this should help them out quite a bit. He ran a 4.75 on a soft tune for 17th position in Radial vs the World

Keith and Wade Nuelett brothers out of Lousiana have a brand new car here this weekend built by B&B Race Cars. They made the first hiits on it here in Georgia and have not had any good passes yet. They are making some chassis adjustments this AM. They do their own engines and this one is a twin turbo SBF.

Chris Tuten is on the lot making some test passes in prep for the NMRA race next weekend. He also has a car in theTRZ Ultimate Street class and is22nd so far with a 5.43 @131MPH. Bob Kurgan is another NMRA/NMCA racing here this weekend also in Ultimate Street. He is 8th with a 5.26 @135

Bill Clary from Outlaw Inductions from Blackshear Georgia. They are struggling here this weekend and are about 3 tenths of their normal 5.20's.

Mel Nelson and the CZR guys were going over some video from yesterday evaluating things. I spoke with Carlos Zaldivar and he is a little frutstrated with Bill Futch not keeping the car straight down track and they may be making a driver change today and putting Mel back int he car.

Ultimate Street is first up again and loaded up. I will be back later with updates so stay tuned..

Rickey Pennington has a clean 69 Chevelle, he rode out a nice wheelie this AM

Kevin Smith launched hard in the TRZ turbo charged Malibu then came down hard. It looked like some may have broke something int he front end and put it inthe wall. He's OK.

Jerry Gunter stood it up in a big way while matched up against Josh Peel out of Chipley Florida. All eyes were on Gunter but Peel rolled out to a nice 4.69. He has been running great this weekend running to 4.67's yesterday

We just had another incedent with the wall. This time is was Erwin Rackley behind the wheel of Kurt Sanders turbo charged Mustang. Also David Wolfe set the record again with a 4.48 @ 174. Back to the track for more photos after this..

Spurgein Atkins just got loose and hit the wall hard, they are likely done for the weekend.

Round three of Radial vs the World is in the books and the bump has moved down to a 4.76. There is 51 cars in teh 4 second zone with Robert Culver holding the last spot with a 4.99 @ 145. DJ Loiacano sits on the bump spot.

In TRZ Ultimate Street Qualifying Anthony Smith misfortune ofbeing the first towed off the track today. Brian Goss laid down a near perfect 5.01. As far as I know this is with the F1C Procharger. Lebron Hill ORSCA 6.00 index champion will run Goss in round one John Baessell got it all fixed up last night and made it in 22nd spot. He will be facing of with Jason Smith who’s running a pretty blue 1980 Camaro. Aaron Gramer out of Palm Harbor got a new best Et with a 5.28 for 14th. Jody Voyles had a backfire on the starting line in his hit today.  Kevin Scrimcher stepped up to third with a 5.25.

Round sheets and final ladders coming sooon..

Radial vs the World

Shane Parker ran well today after the trans and converter swap last night getting in the field in 18th with a 4.68 @162. Sam Vincent ran a 4.60o to take sixth. Kimmis picks up and lands in 12th with a 4.66. Tommy Brewer did not make the field at 35th. He landed 53th and has a place in the second chance race if he’s able. Brad Edwards lost the hood just before the lights. Francis Johnson sure laid one down with a 4.66 @ 152 he keeps the radial tire nitrous record for now and has a stellar 1.12 60′. Hinzman takes over second spot with a 4.57 @ 165. Dave Hance also got down nice with a 4.65. Rideenour had a 4.70 flat next to Wolfe, his best pass of the weekend and a 1.15 60′.

Scotty G, TJ Kasper, Dillard, Mike Kimmis, Steve Jackson,  I think this is all the Outlaw style cars in the class.

BMF Extreme 275

Ronnie Wilson had a leak and was pushed back, he did not make a hit in todays session but qualified 37th yesterday. Kevin Neal wound up in second after making extensive repairs. They had to take the heads to a local shop for machining. Great job guys. Dwight Cannon made the haul from Cypress Texas and ran 5.05 for sixth place.

It just keeps getting better as Wolfe set low ET yet again with a 4.47. putting Tony Ridenour on the trailer. I have run out for more video..

Vernon House from Kentucky got loose and hit the wall hard in his Camaro right in front of me and NDA Cut, they are cleaning the track up now. While the staff was taking cars of the surface Don Long and Tony and Sherrie from RPM Magazine had a special duck hat giveaway.

Ultimate Street

Brian Goss just keeps getting faster and faster. Running a 4.98 @ 136 in round one to take out Labron Hill making him the first 4 second car in TRZ Ultimate Street. I know before the race there was talk of 5.0's but I don't think anyone really expected any 4's

Ari Birchfield got an opponent broke bye as Rick Losee did not make the call with his Chevy II. Clint Lonon looked to be on a very nice run but left before the tree. Good for him it was a single. Bob Kurgan stepped it up from a 5.46 to a .24. Another car who stepped up is out of the Real Speed camp in Clearwater FL, Charlie Pixley laid down a nice 5.16 @ 136. Kevin Smith and the TRZ guys were able to make repairs on the Malibu. He ran a 5.20 and will advance to round two.

BMF Extreme 275 RD 1

Travis Thomason had the bye as number one qualifier and set low ET again with a 4.91 @ 146. He does have some company now though as several other cars broke into the 4’s, including Joe Morgan, Sean Lyon, Gary Jones and Dave Bowman who made the trip all the way from California and had the water in the block freeze up on the ride East forcing them to make repairs on site. There is another five cars in the 5 Ohh’s so the rest of the race tomorrow should be very interesting.

Speaking of Bowman during his first round run there was a burn down of epic proportions with Dale Handy. Dwayne Shulz  won his matchup with Stinnet with a 5.14.

Here is a shot of the damage on the Sanders/Rackley Ride. It looks mostly cosmetic to me.

From left to right, Scotty G, Nate Prichett, Ellen and Big Sexy. Scotty qualified third with a 4.58 @ 163 and won his first round with a 4.71. He faces off with Josh Peel out of Chiply Florida driving a turbocharged 92 Camaro.

SGMP Manager Tim and The Duck Saturday Night. Good job on the race guys, it's off the chain. No doubt about it.

Istopped by Shannon Wren's toter before I left to see what was what. Ifound part of mak Woodruff's crew enjoying the night. Woodruff hails from Arnold Missouri and drive the georgous 76 Corvette in Radial vs the World. He made 46th on the sheet with a 4.94 but that have to head out in the AM to get home. Wren has updated the team Jager car to a large BBC with twins on alcohol and 25.3 chassis, NBS Fabrication should be wrapped up with the build in a month or so.

I ran into these guys pullin into the motel. Ben and Damon (stangman98 on YB) flew in from Wisconson to catch the action. They are staying over for the finale on Sunday.
