Swedish Pro Mod racer Adam Flamholc made a splash last year in the NMCA when he nearly won the title in Xtreme Pro Mod behind the wheel of his roots-blown 1963 Corvette. A viscous crash at the NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl in Chicago caused some injuries that would ultimately derail his title chances, but for 2018 Flamholc is taking on a new challenge in his racing career: he’s set to take on the fastest door cars in the world racing in the PDRA’s Pro Extreme division this season.
After Flamholc examined his racing options locally in the Southeastern United States he noticed that most allowed for the use of screw blowers, so he made the choice to move to that power adder. This change provides Flamholc with a wider variety of races to attend while still staying close to his home in Florida. The choice to go to a screw blower and race in the PDRA is also tied to his sponsors and where they will be racing in 2018.
“My main sponsor, 5 Days Plantation Shutters & Blinds, owns a Top Sportsman-style nitrous car that we have put together as an Outlaw 632 car here at Hameetman Racing Engines (HRE) at the shop in Florida. Since the car is built to run Outlaw 632 it makes sense for us to run the PDRA tour with both cars. Daryl Hameetman will be the driver of the Outlaw 632 Mustang at the PDRA events this season,” Flamholc explains.
Currently, Flamholc is building two engines that will be able to run the PSI C-rotor blower he will be using this season. Along with the change to a screw blower, Flamholc is updating suspension of the Corvette, switching to a two-speed transmission, and going through a hefty weight-reduction process to get the car ready. All of this is being done with the goal in mind of trying to win a PDRA Pro Extreme title.
For Flamholc, part of the fun in this switch is the challenge and competition, but he’s prepared to take on the quickest and fastest in the world.
“It will be a challenge to run Pro Extreme, for sure. I’m really looking forward to it, and I’m very motivated. The PDRA is where the fastest door cars in the world compete, and I want to try to run with them. Since I have a new car along with a new engine and transmission setup, it will probably take a couple of test sessions to figure it out. I think as a team we are up for the challenge and will make things work,” Flamholc explains.
The PDRA Pro Extreme category could be one of the most interesting in all of Pro Mod racing this year. With teams from all over the world jumping in to be a part of this high-horsepower spectacle it will surely create some outstanding racing.
