The American Drag Racing League is preparing to make its inaugural visit this weekend to Bruton Smith’s stunning zMAX Dragway in Concord, N.C. for the ninth running of the fabled Dragstock, and to ring in the occasion, ADRL officials are adding a little extra flavor to the debut event right in the heart of doorslammer country.
Billed as “Pro Mods & Hot Rods”, Dragstock IX will feature a cruise-in of classic hot rods, rat rods, muscle cars, and other wild street machines this weekend, August 3-4. According to ADRL officials, the likes of Jim Oddy, Thomas Childers, and Bradley Gray and his wild supercharged and turbocharged ’69 Camaro are among those expecting to attend with their classic rides.
Dragstock IX is the seventh of 10 races on the 2012 ADRL Tour, and with only four races remaining, the championship battles are truly beginning to take shape.
Dragstock was the ADRL’s first one-off event back in 2004 at the Carolina Dragway in Jackson, S.C. and as the oldest event on the schedule, remains the biggest stop on the annual tour. Dragstock was moved to ZMAX this season after its former host for six seasons, the Rockingham Dragway, parted ways with the ADRL at the conclusion of last season.
This year’s event will be the first Dragstock showcase of the all-new SuperCar Showdown division.
Qualifying gets underway on Friday at noon and resumes at 11 a.m. with the final qualifying session on Saturday, with eliminations to follow at 3:30 p.m.
