ProMedia Publishing, the parent company of the NMRA, NMCA, and NMCA WEST drag racing series, announced today that the 2017 season will be the NMCA WEST’s last, as the organization will instead focus its efforts on the growing success of its East Coast-based events.
The NMCA WEST staff said in today’s statement: With the incredible growth ProMedia Events has recognized with its NMRA and NMCA east coast series it has become imperative to open available weekends for future east coast events and focus valuable resources and energies where the company will see the most growth and opportunity. NMCA WEST will continue it’s popular Auto-X series, which regularly sells out and attracts many of the top west coast autocross participants each event.
“We have made so many good friends in west coast drag racing and will miss seeing them on a regular basis,” said Steve Wolcott President & CEO of NMCA WEST. “The entire NMCA WEST team thanks our racers and sponsors for their support and we wish them all the best in the future. We also appreciate our special relationship with Auto Club Dragway and know that the track will attract additional events for west coast drag racers.”
While the drag racing portion of the NMCA WEST events will cease, the Auto-X autocross portion will remain in place and conducted at Auto Club Speedway, with 2018 dates to be announced at a later time.
The NMCA WEST series debuted in 2012, contesting events at Fontana, Bakersfield, Pomona, and Las Vegas, before later taking up full-time residence at the Auto Club Dragway for its four-race series.
