Back in December we ran an article here at Dragzine called Possible changes to NHRA Super Street rules. The results are in from the voting and here they are – only one change has been made.

The following is from the NHRA:

Several months ago, the NHRA Competition Committee, working in conjunction with the Sportsman Racer’s Advisory Council (SRAC), issued a survey to all current participants in Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street. Participants were asked to forward their opinions on several topics, including the possible reduction of indexes in each class.

After collecting and analyzing the data, it has been determined that the indexes in Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street will remain at 8.90, 9.90, and 10.90, respectively, for the 2011 season. One change that was recommended and will be implemented is the single-car rule for Super Street competitors that states that drivers in that class may not compete in any other class at a national or divisional event. In 2011, competitors in Super Street will be permitted to enter one additional Lucas Oil or Full Throttle class at NHRA Full Throttle or Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events.

In Super Comp, e-mails were sent to 5,237 registered competitors. Of those, 421 were rejected due to incorrect e-mail information; nine racers opted out of the survey, and 26 skipped the question entirely. Of the 1,809 racers who answered the question, 830 (45.9 percent) voted to keep the current 8.90 index, 609 (33.7 percent) voted to lower the index to 7.90 seconds, and 386 (21.3 percent) voted for an 8.50 standard.

In Super Gas, 4,436 e-mails were issued. Of those, 361 were rejected; nine racers opted out of the survey, and 15 skipped the question. Of the 1,657 who did answer, 859 drivers (51.8 percent) voted to keep the current 9.90 index, 423 (25.5 percent) voted for a 9.50 index, and 395 (23.8 percent) voted for an 8.90 index.

In Super Street, 2,522 e-mails were sent, and 201 were rejected. Of the 989 racers who responded to the question regarding index changes, 591 (59.8 percent) voted to maintain the current 10.90 standard, 169 (17.1 percent) voted for a 10.10 index, and 241 (24.4 percent) voted to change the class structure to a dial-your own format between 10.10 and 10.99 seconds. Regarding the single-entry rule, the overwhelming majority of the 987 respondents, 667 or 67.7 percent, voted for the amended rule, and 318 (32 percent) voted to maintain the single-class rule.
