Esteemed drag radial racing promoter Donald Long and veteran doorslammer racer and Midwest Drag Racing Series founder Keith Haney have at times been heated rivals, but in late May they will be partners in an epic Shakedown at M’Town at Michigan’s US 131 Motorsports Park.
Set for May 28–31, the continuation of the Shakedown legacy will bring together DuckX Productions and the FuelTech Radial Outlaws Racing Series with the Midwest Drag Racing Series for a rare and unlikely collaboration. Initially scheduled on the same weekend, the two series faced a conflict—one that was resolved when Keith Haney reached out to Donald Long, and both sides agreed to turn the overlap into an opportunity. The result: an expanded Shakedown lineup featuring a mix of the country’s top radial and Pro Mod competitors, with a strong dose of sportsman drag racing action.
The confirmed class list for the Radial Outlaws series includes Radial vs The World, Pro 275, Limited Drag Radial, X275, Ultra Street, Limited Street 235, and N/T Outlaw 275. Long’s commitment to preserving the legacy of the late Dave Hance’s original Shakedown events remains central to the format, with 10.5 Pro Street and Midwest Drag Racing Series’ Pro Mod class maintaining their long-standing spots on the card. From drag radial’s top stars to the best Pro Mods of America’s heartland, the field represents a wide cross-section of outlaw drag racing.
Joining them will be Midwest Drag Racing Series staples Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. It marks one of the few times these heads-up and bracket-style racers will share a weekend with the radial tire crowd. For teams and tuners, it presents a new set of challenges, with different surfaces, power management strategies, and qualifying dynamics. US 131, known for its top-notch track prep, will be a critical factor in performance potential and overall parity between classes and tires on the same racetrack.
Tickets for the Shakedown go on sale Friday, April 11.
