RJ Race Cars Completes Build Of Gorgeous New Shelby GT500

RJ Race Cars Mustang 2

The RJ Race Cars/Quarter Max business model is something a lot of drag racing enthusiasts are looking for. Because while not everyone has the budget to task a builder with a state-of-the-art race car, many of the do-it-yourself’ers appreciate the availability of professionally-made, high-end components for their own builds.

If everything goes well for Dollinger, this is the view his competitors will see. We know the chassis will be ready for whatever he throws at it.

Rick Jones Race Cars itself, however, has different stages of building cars, and Quarter-Max sells the build packages for those just wanting a chassis designed specifically for a certain body style, all the way up to a full-fledged car, minus a drivetrain.

Kris Dollinger wanted a car to race in the NHRA’s Hot Rod Heritage Series, which holds events at Sacramento Raceway, Auto Club Famoso Raceway, and Rocky Mountain Raceway in Salt Lake City, Utah. Basically, it’s drag racing the way it used to be. Dollinger looked to RJ and Quarter-Max to build this 1967 Shelby GT500 in the Heritage Series. and they didn’t disappoint.

Seriously, Dollinger's GT500 is one of the nicest, meanest-looking race cars you will see. RJ and Quarter Max can build the same thing for you, and make you the envy of the drag strip.

Dollinger will run heads-up, but his class has a 7.60-second breakout index. Therefore, his car can’t run quicker than that. However, just in case Dollinger gets the urge to run quicker, the car features a nitrous system to make that possible. The Shelby is very much a Pro Mod-style car, and ultimately, if Dollinger decided to go that route, the car is diverse enough to fit a wide range of classes.

Before the car was built, Dollinger went to Jones to get fitted to the car so it would fit him like a glove, whichever class he decides to go for in the future. The double-frame rail chassis features a Strange Engineering Ultra 4-link housing, Weld Racing Delta wheels, Goodyear Eagle racing slicks and front tires, and the like.

For Dollinger, when he saw the completed car for the first time, said, “I was blown away. The craftsmanship, the details,” he adds. That’s pretty much our reaction when we saw the pictures of the car. If Dollinger is as successful as the car looks, he’ll be in the winner’s circle the first race.
