Roger Holder Rolls Out New Jerry Bickel-Built 2017 Pro Mod Camaro

Roger Holder will race anything with a steering wheel — it doesn’t matter if it’s his small-tire Camaro or his asphalt circle track machine, he’s game to race it. All of that racing experience is going to come in handy as the West Coast runner prepares to race his brand new Jerry Bickel Race Cars Pro Modified Camaro at the Super Street Car Nationals in Las Vegas this week.

Jumping into the Pro Mod world wasn’t something that Holder really had on his radar, but the opportunity to race more is what made it so attractive to him.

“I love small-tire racing, but in recent years it has died off out West. There’s nowhere to race or test with a high horsepower radial car and it was becoming a problem. So, with the Pro Mod I will be able to test when needed and then hopefully travel around to race while being competitive,” Holder explains.

The 2017 Camaro that Bickel prepared for Holder is packed with their newest chassis innovations, and it will need it to hold all the power the Pro Line Racing engine has on tap. Pro Line built the Chevrolet-based engine with billet block that measures 526 cubic-inches on a five-inch bore space. The block was paired with a set of CFE heads and a CFE intake to make maximum boosted power. Inside the engine is a quality rotating assembly that features a Bryant crankshaft, BME connecting rods, and BME pistons. Precision Turbo & Engine provided a set of 88mm turbos, blow-off valves, and wastegates to control the boost from the Bickel-built turbo system.

The choice to go with Jerry Bickel for this new build was an easy one for Holder, and he’s ready to put some laps on his new car.

“I chose Bickel mainly because they have been around for years. For Bickel to still be around for so many years they must be doing something right in this industry. Also, many of the top teams use Bickel stuff so I know it will be a competitive car,” Holder says.

After breaking the car in at the SSCN event, Holder plans on jumping into the Pro Mod world with both feet and maybe even get in on some radial tire action with the car. “I want to go back East and run NMCA, PDRA and whatever else that may come up that we can run. I think with the Pro Mod it will allow us to race a lot more. There could be a chance of some radials being bolted on if we can get the testing in to be competitive,” Holder says.

According to Holder, racing at this level isn’t easy and the help he has received has made getting this new car ready much smoother.

“I would like to thank God for the opportunity to do what I love at a very high level and my wife, Roberta Holder, for being supportive of anything that I want to race. I also want to thank my crew, which are all my friends that love the sport of drag racing and in no order. Will Simco, Rod Wheeler, Chris Wheeler, my Dad Roger Sr, Gary Holder, Dave Vertiz, Chris McCauley, and Chris Burnette all help out. Also, my sponsors for the Pro Mod, Holders Air Conditioning, Holders Mechanical, M&M fuels, Deeds Performance, Precision Turbos, and Speedwire.”

Look for Holder’s new ride to hit the track very soon and become a contender in the brutally competitive world of Pro Mod racing!
